If you want to meet a volunteer who has a passion for library service, come see Mary Hines on a Saturday afternoon. While Mary has only been helping at the circulation desk for little more than a year, she has long been a fixture in the library world. Mary was born and raised in the Bronx, but lived most of her life on Long Island where, in addition to raising three daughters, she was an elementary and junior high school librarian, as well as a part-time reference librarian at the local public library. Mary moved to Austin in 1999 to help care for her two grandchildren and worked for five years as a reference librarian in Pflugerville. Once she retired, Mary devoted her free time to serving as a docent at the Blanton Museum of Art for ten years and now as a volunteer at the circulation desk and occasionally on the bookmobile. Mary tells us that she loves libraries and serving people which is evident in her every interaction. Thank you, Mary, for serving the library and our patrons – we love having you here!
