Volunteer Spotlight: Grahame Jones

We are thrilled to highlight a special volunteer, Grahame Jones, who Outreach Librarian Karen Ballinger noted “was the first person to ever volunteer on the bookmobile back in 2017!” Volunteer Coordinator Mariah sat down with Grahame to talk about his time at the library.

Where are you from? Judging by your accent, I don’t think you’re from Texas!
I’m from England originally, but I have lived in the Lake Travis area since 2002.

Could you tell us about your family?
I have 3 kids—2 sons who live in Ft. Lauderdale and a daughter who lives in Leander. I also have 3 grandchildren.

What initiated your interest in volunteering at the library?
When I retired, I was spending a lot of time at the library anyway, so I started volunteering. I’ve worked at the circulation desk, on the bookmobile, and at the bookstore!

What kinds of books do you like to read?
I like books with a lot of ex-special forces, spies, and action, but my favorite book of all time is The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame.

What do you like to do for fun?
I like to go to the gym, read, do the crossword, yard work, and follow Sunderland AFC. I’ve also been traveling since retiring, most notably to Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.

What’s your favorite thing about volunteering at the library?
Seeing the kids on the bookmobile—they’re so funny!

Please join us thanking Grahame for his years of service to the library!
