Volunteer Spotlight: Elizabeth Walden

We are thrilled to highlight longtime volunteer Elizabeth Walden and her furry companion, Dr. Danger! Elizabeth and Dr. Danger lead Bow Wow Reading on the first Monday of every month.

How long have you volunteered at the library?
I don’t remember exactly, but it was when the library was in the “old” Randall’s shopping center!

What volunteer roles have you taken on?
My first role at the library was shelving books and working at the circulation desk. I spent some time as the head of the Friends Scholarship Committee, helping to award scholarships to our exceptional teen volunteers. I’ve also supported the library’s book clubs by helping the Glass of Wine (GOW) club organize the nominations of their books and I helped to launch the Texas My Texas Book Club in 2017, which I continue to lead to this day!

What do you like to read?
I enjoy a wide range of books. One of my favorites is Hold Autumn in Your Hand by George Sessions Perry. Another favorite from GOW, is a book of poetry by Mary Oliver, Dog Songs. The group was challenged to write our own poems about dogs!

Do you have any pets?
Yes! My third golden retriever, Dr. Danger, P.H.D. (Professional Hunting Dog), is a therapy dog with Divine Canines. We visit schools, hospitals, nursing homes, AND libraries! You’ll see us soon at the library for Bow Wow Reading.

Please join us in thanking Elizabeth and Dr. Danger for their dedicated volunteer service to our library!
