Adult Volunteer Coordinator Mariah Froehlich sat down with Friends Bookstore volunteer Nancy Galant to chat about life, books, and more! Read on to get to know Nancy:
Where are you from?
Chicago, Illinois! After we retired, my husband and I spent 12 years in Arizona and then moved here to be closer to our daughter and grandkids. We also have a son and grandkids back home in Illinois.
What did you do before retiring?
My first profession was as a legal secretary. Then I stayed home to raise my kids. Finally, I spent about 15 or so years as a financial secretary for a local high school.
Do you have any hobbies or interests?
I love to read and play games. I play mah jongg, bunco, and canasta. I used to play a lot of golf – our family loves to play golf – but I haven’t done that much lately.
What do you like to read?
I’m a Nora Roberts girl, and I read a lot of Louise Penny. I also like historical fiction, and I read whatever my bookstore partner, Bill, recommends to me. There’s a something about holding a book and turning the pages that reminds me of being a little girl curling up with a good book at the library. It’s just magical.
What is your favorite thing about volunteering in the Lakeway bookstore?
I love meeting all the people and watching children’s faces when they find a book they really want.
Please join us in thanking Nancy Galant for her hard work and dedication to our library and community!
