Where are you from?
I was born in Texas, but raised in Florida. My mom’s side of the family has been in Austin since the mid-1800s, so I have deep roots in the area.

What did you do before retirement?
I spent my entire career at Murray State University, in far western Kentucky. Go Racers! In my early career I was a Professor of Psychology and department chair. I then became Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education and in my final year I served as MSU’s acting Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

What are your interests and hobbies?
I have been researching my family history for quite a few years and am now trying to write the story of my family. It is fascinating work. I’m enjoying learning about my ancestors and about what was happening in the world at the time in which they lived. I like to think about how these historic events might have influenced where they lived and the various, sometimes tragic, decisions they made.

Do you have any summer reading recommendations?
I have to go back to one of my favorite books of all time, The Three Musketeers. It is such a wild, fun, crazy adventure – it’s impossible not to like.
