What made you want to be a Tech Coach?
“As a former librarian, I have years of experience with tech troubleshooting. I wanted to help people in my community get more comfortable with technology.” – April
“I enjoy giving back to my community in my semi-retirement.” – Jeff

What is the most exciting/surprising question you’ve ever been asked?
“I really like it when I can help someone change their life for the better. The most exciting questions I receive involve helping a patron fill out a job application or an application for benefits when they don’t really understand how to use a computer or complete the application process online. Once we are able to complete the process, the smile says it all!” – Mike

What is an example of a typical question?
“Many questions relate to something new that the patron has not learned how to use fully – a new app, smartwatch, or cell phone.” – Dan

What’s one technology tip you wish everyone knew?
“I wish everyone knew there are no silly questions!” – April
“When you search for something on Google, put in the fewest words possible and do not write in whole sentences.” – Jeff
“I recommend that patrons keep their electronic devices organized. Delete old files, emails, and pictures. Close many of the open windows, screens, and apps. Having things organized makes it easier to find, diagnose, and resolve issues.” – Dan
“Don’t click on any email or text link you weren’t expecting or looks a little off. Just delete it or go to the company’s website to investigate if needed. Also, use a reputable password manager for all your sensitive IDs and passwords. There are very good products out there to help keep us safer that are cheap and easy to use.” – Mike

Tech Coaches are available Mondays through Thursdays from 12pm to 2pm at the library in Lakeway. Please join us in thanking our talented Tech Coach team!
