We are delighted to highlight Friends of the Library West Bookstore Manager Ronda Spurlin! The Friends Bookstore (at Lakeway and West) is staffed entirely by volunteers and features books for all ages. With hours expanding to include Thursdays and Fridays, we thought this was the perfect time to highlight Ronda, the West Bookstore, and some new volunteer opportunities! Read on to learn more:
What do you like about your role as Bookstore Manager at West?
I love working with people, and have volunteered with local schools and scouts for years. I am excited to be a part of the new library and bookstore, especially because it is in my own neighborhood, Spicewood!
What makes the West bookstore unique?
The West bookstore is located in a separate building we call “the outpost.” It has a laid-back feel and is actually bigger than the bookstore in Lakeway. We also have a new seed library where patrons are welcome to take and donate a wide variety seeds including flowers, vegetables, and greens.
What do you think people love about volunteering at West?
Our volunteers enjoy giving back to our community and organizing donated items in the bookstore. There’s a relaxing atmosphere here, so they enjoy one another’s company and just have a lot of fun!
Do you need more bookstore volunteers?
Always! Saturday is probably the day that is the most challenging to find volunteers. And now that we’re open Thursdays and Fridays, we’ll need to fill those spots, too!
