Teen Programs

Volunteer

Students age 13 and older commit to weekly two or three hour shifts. Teens work directly with patrons and staff by shelving, organizing, assisting with duties at the circulation desk, and working on special projects. Volunteers should have a mature attitude and be responsible, dependable, and able to work independently. The volunteer program offers students a fun way to complete community service hours and the opportunity to be awarded a scholarship their senior year. There are 3 volunteer sessions each year.

Fall Session – August 12 through December 28, 2024. Applications for the fall session are available July 1st through 15th.

Spring Session – January 6 through May 24, 2025. Applications for the spring session are available November 1st through 15th.

Summer Session – May 27 through August 10, 2024. Applications for the summer session are closed.

2024 Teen Scholarship Winners

Scholarship recipients Ryan Vo, Rebha Acharya with Teen Volunteer Coordinator Beth Yoder, Ashley Shtaih, Benjamin Ortiz, and Danae Levin

Five Lake Travis High School seniors, who have each volunteered over 75 hours at the library, will attend college in the fall with the help of scholarships from the Friends of the Lake Travis Community Library.

We were so impressed by the applicants this year,” Teen Volunteer Coordinator Beth Yoder said. “And we are thrilled to be able to help further their education!”

Scholarship winner Rebha Acharya will attend UT to study Electrical and Computer Engineering. Benjamin Ortiz will attend a four-year university to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Computer Science with a minor in Media Art. Ryan Vo will study at UT Dallas focusing on Electrical Engineering, after which he hopes to find a career in robotics. Danae Levin will attend UT to pursue a career as an OB-GYN. And Ashley Shtaih plans to become a nurse in a pediatric oncology unit upon graduating from the nursing program at Texas Christian University.

Since 2007, the Friends of the Library have awarded more than $125,000 in scholarships to teen volunteers. Congratulations and best wishes to these exceptional graduates!

Teen Art Contest

Students in grades 6-12 were invited to create a piece of art that was inspired by their favorite book or a recent read.

“We were captivated by the talent of these young artists and pleased to see the variety and range of their reading,” said contest judges Pam Sachant, Victoria Waite, and Sarah Walters.

Thanks to the Friends of the Library, cash prizes were awarded to the winners! The following participants also had their artwork displayed as a special exhibit in the Library’s meeting room.
