We are delighted to spotlight all-star volunteer Freddie Solsona! Freddie works in the Friends of the Library Bookstore at both locations, Lakeway and West!
Where you from?
I was born and raised in Austin, but came to Lake Travis by way of Colorado. My husband Carl and I loved living in Colorado but decided to come back to Austin to be closer to family.
Could you tell us about your family and pets?
I don’t currently have any pets, but I loved having a Miniature Schnauzer – that’s the kind of dog I would want again. As far as human children go, I have a daughter and son, Carl has two daughters, and we have five grandchildren between us.
What are your hobbies?
I like playing Canasta, gardening, cooking, exercising, and skiing. My favorite place in the world is Kauai, so I travel there as much as I can.
What did you do before retiring?
For many years I worked in the moving industry and I loved it! I’ve also had stints in teaching and interior design.
You are one the few volunteers who work at both bookstore locations! (Lakeway and West!) What is your favorite thing about volunteering?
I love the people, the atmosphere, and the books – it’s all great!
What have you been reading lately?
My favorite author right now is William Kent Krueger – he’s unbelievable! I’m also a fan of Michael Connelly, David Baldacci, and Danielle Steel. I appreciate Danielle Steel because she makes a point of writing about women’s trials and social issues.
