Not all library volunteers shelve books or staff the Friends Bookstore, some share their time and talents in other ways, like Monika Orr, who hosts our popular Chair Yoga class. Read on to learn more about Monika!
Where are you from and what brought you to the Lake Travis area?
I grew up in a small town in Missouri. My husband and I moved to Lake Travis from Atlanta 16 years ago. My sister lives here with my two nephews and I couldn’t stand not being near them!
What did you do before retiring?
I retired early from a career in market research technology. I went to a yoga teacher training 8 years ago, just for fun, and loved it! I now teach chair yoga, slow flow, and Yin yoga.
What are the benefits of chair yoga?
Chair yoga is all about strength, breath work, and core work. It’s great for people with shoulder, hip, knee, and back issues because there are so many modifications available. If you can sit in a chair, you can do chair yoga!
What are your other hobbies and interests?
Traveling! I love to go anywhere and everywhere. I’ve visited 47 states so far. I love to cook, especially multicultural foods. And I love to read! I always have a book with me.
What do you enjoy reading?
Historical fiction. I also enjoy being in book clubs, because they challenge me to read books I wouldn’t have picked up otherwise. Like Horse by Geraldine Brooks which I read for a book club and highly recommend!
Please join us in thanking Monika for volunteering her time with the library! And keep up to date with Chair Yoga classes through our online calendar.
